Tensile Testing
Tensile testing is the most fundamental of mechanical testing methods. The technique is typically used to determine the yield and tensile strength of a material. The tensile testing machine can also be used for flexural- and compression testing. After a tensile test has been conducted, the fracture surface of the test speciemen is commonly studied using Electron microscopy (SEM) to determine the mode of fracture.
Typical applications:
- Determination of yield and tensile strength
- Maximum deflection
- Comparison of stress-strain curves
- Fracture characteristics
